Delete your Smriti account
You can delete your Smriti account at any time. This deletes your account and everything we keep on our servers. It can’t be undone.
Want a copy first? In the app, go to You → Data → Export before you delete.
In the app
- Open Smriti and go to You.
- Under Account, tap Delete account.
- Read what will be deleted, then confirm it’s you. If your account has a password, type it. If it doesn’t (you sign in with an emailed code or with Google), tap Email me a code and enter the code we send you. It works for 10 minutes.
- Tap Delete my account.
Deleting your account needs an internet connection. The copy on that phone is erased too, and Smriti starts fresh. We email you when it’s done.
Without the app
If you no longer have the app, email privacy@smritijournal.com from the email address of your Smriti account, with the subject “Delete my account”. We act only on requests sent from the account’s own address, so that nobody else can delete your account. We delete it within 7 days and reply when it’s done.
What is deleted
- Your entries, handwritten pages and their earlier versions
- Your photos, videos and voice notes
- Your journals, settings, templates, reminders and saved places
- Your devices and the encrypted copies of your keys
- Your sign-in details: your email address, password, Google sign-in link and sign-in sessions
Your entries are end-to-end encrypted, so we could never read them. Deleting the account removes the encrypted copies too.
What stays, and for how long
- Other phones on this account are signed out. Anything already on them stays there until you delete the app on those phones.
- Encrypted files are removed from storage by a job that runs every hour.
- Encrypted backups of our database expire within 14 days (20 at most).
- For one day, we keep a record of the deleted account’s internal ID, without your email address, so that anything still arriving from your phones is deleted too.
- Our server logs never contain your email address or your entries. Our email provider, Resend, keeps its own delivery record of the emails we sent you for a limited time.
